Apartment Hunting Internet Style | Free Financial Today

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Oooh, it’s a slow news day.  This is the best I could find this morning.  Nothing new — you are probably already using the Web to search for apartments.

I do disagree with the statement, “You can find out all the information before spending your time going to each apartment building.”  You can find out a lot online, but not everything.

You definitely want to  visit your top three options, and physically go into the actual apartment you would be occupying.

In St. Louis apartments, there can be a big difference between a community’s display apartment and the unit you will physically occupy  — words of wisdom  from the Apartment Search experts!

There are many benefits to search for a new apartment over the internet; this is because you can find out all the information before spending your time going to each apartment building.

Come for Splash Day at Pheasant Run!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I like supporting worthwhile causes, and this is a great one.  It benefits kids with cancer, and features an early-spring pool plunge by Pheasant Run’s property manager

Aaah, Splash Day is the perfect combination of (mild) human suffering, rewarded with humane generosity.  Stop by and drop off a few bucks this Saturday. Or just send a check — that’s what Apartment Search is doing! (Address is on the attached link).

Splash Day is Coming!

Village Green’s annual fundraiser, Splash Day, first began 19 years ago with a dare. Because we traditionally open our apartment community pools in early April, often before swimming-friendly weather, a manager accepted a dare to take the plunge, but only if pledges were made for donations to a worthy cause.

Since then, Village Green has donated up to $50,000 a year to various charities with Splash Day efforts from each of its regions. Our goal is to raise pledges for the St. Louis -based “Friends of Kids with Cancer” – http://www.friendsofkids.com/

Domestic Relocation

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I just like the phrase, ‘Penny Wise and Pound Foolish’. Old Ben Franklin knew what he was talking about.  There are currently some fantastic deals in the St. Louis Apartment market — just be sure you know what you’re getting for your penny before you buy...

We’ve all heard the phrase ‘Penny Wise and Pound Foolish’ before and I think it has taken on a new meaning recently within the relocation industry. It seems that the focus has shifted from everyone working together to make the transferee’s move as painless as possible to everyone (including the transferee) working “solo” to find the cheapest possible price for any given service. It reminds me of another one of my favorite phrases, “You get what you pay for.”

Apartment Hunting in a Renters’ Market – The Juggle – WSJ

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Finding an apartment, in New York City or St. Louis or anywhere, is a major undertaking.  The author of the article below missed a huge resource using brokers (apartment Locators) to narrow down your search.  There are free locator services in virtually every major city in the U.S.

Start with www.apartmentsacrossamerica.com. If your city isn’t listed, contact a locator in your state.  They will direct you to local services in or near your township of choice.  The key here is to work smart.  Locators are a great information source to begin, and often quickly resolve, the tedious task of finding that perfect apartment.

Thanks to the real-estate slump it’s a renters’ market out there. Vacancy rates are still pretty high and landlords in many areas are willing to bargain, in some cases offering a free month’s rent or waiving fees. Home prices have also fallen back to earth since the boom years.

Renton apartment manager charged with housing discrimination | KING5.com | Seattle Area Local News

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Hard to believe discrimination continues in this day and age, but it does.  Tolerance is a much-needed value in today’s world – not just in housing, but in life.  Remember the old adage, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.”  So don’t.

RENTON, Wash. – A Renton apartment manager, along with the apartment building’s owners and property management company, has been charged with violating the fair housing act.

How to go about getting your rental apartment deposit back from landlord | recordonline.com

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Q. We moved from our rental apartment more than three months ago. Since then, our deposit has not been returned. How can we get our money back?

A. State and local rules vary, but the odds are good that your money will be returned. The first step is to see what is required in your jurisdiction. Speak with a local community housing office or legal clinic. Or, as a start, go online and search for “rental deposit rules” in your state.

The Origin Of April Fools’ Day

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Prank-pulling has been an April 1 tradition for more than 500 years.

Who was the first joker to put a frog in the teacher’s desk? What clown originated the idea of rearranging his friend’s apartment and putting all the furniture on the roof?

Nothing Better Than a Satisfied Customer!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

When I started thinking about moving, I got online and started searching for places to rent.  When you don’t know a certain area it is so hard to figure out exactly where to start looking.  All the online websites require you to really know the area you are looking at or you have to search through hundreds of apartments that meet your criteria but might not be where you want.

Your service is so much better.  You give what rent.com or apartments.com etc offers, a database of all the rentals, only you give someone personal service and information about the area and each rental…….why wouldn’t a renter use you!!  I did, and I will again.
